The Second Bridge, Cox Brook Road - Northfield, VT

Including: Barre, Waterbury, Montpelier, Waitsfield, Northfield, Warren, and Stowe.

Emily's Bridge -Stowe, VT
Built in 1844, this 48 ft Howe truss bridge spans Gold brook.  It has become famous as Vermont's only haunted bridge. Near Routes 100 & 108.

Kingsbury Bridge  -Randolph, VT
Constructed in 1904 by an unknown builder the Kingsbury Bridge has multiple Kingpost construction.  Off Route 14.

Gifford Bridge -Randolph, VT
Also Constructed in 1904 the Gifford Bridge has single Kingpost construction that suggests that it was converted to a covered bridge from an "open pony" bridge. Off Route 14.

Braley Bridge -Randolph, VT
Similar in construction and type to the Gifford bridge, tricky to drive back to Rt. 14 from this one, consider walking to see it.  Off Route 14.

Village Bridge -Waitsfield, VT
Vermont's second oldest bridge, this 105' multiple kingpost with burr arch bridge is one of the few with a walkway, completely restored in 1973.  On Bridge Street.

Pine Brook Bridge -Waitsfield, VT
Built in 1872 with kingpost construction, restored in 1977.  On Tremblay Street.

Warren Bridge -Warren, VT
Built in 1879-80, this 60' queenpost has an asymmetrical design. Near Route 100.

Orton Bridge -Marshfield, VT
Located in a field south of Rte 2, this privately owned Queenpost design has two large cupolas.

Moseley Bridge -Northfield, VT
Built in 1899 by John Mosely, this modified Kingpost bridge spans 36 ft over the Stony Brook. Off Route 12A.

Chamberlain Bridge -Northfield, VT
Also along Stony Brook , Chamberlain Bridge is a privately owned 22 ft Kingpost built in 1956 by Mahlon Chamberlain. Off Route 12A.

Slaughterhouse Bridge -Northfield, VT
Built around 1860 this 60 ft Queenpost bridge is difficult to find.  Go 3/10ths of a mile south of Cox Brook Road.

Station Bridge -Northfield, VT
One of three bridges in a row on Cox Brook Road. You can take a picture of this bridge through Second bridge.

Second Bridge -Northfield, VT
The second in a series of bridge on Cox Brook Road.

Third Bridge -Northfield, VT
The third in the series of beautiful red covered bridges on Cox Brook Road in Northfield.

Coburn Bridge -East Montpelier, VT
Built in 1851 by Lane Coburn this 69 ft Queenpost bridge crosses the Winooski River.  On Coburn Bridge Road.

Robbin's Nest Bridge -Barre, VT
Rebuilt in 1962-64 after the original was lost to the flood of 1927, this queenpost is located off Route 302.

Kent's Corner Bridge -Calais, VT
A privately owned 22 ft kingpost built in 1994 on Kent Hill Road in Calais.

Powerhouse Bridge -Johnson, VT
This queenpost bridge crosses the Gihon River, construction date 1872.  Off Route 100C.

Scribner Bridge -Johnson, VT
Construction date unknown, this bridge started out as a half height uncovered "pony bridge." Around 1919 a cover was added.  Off Route 100C.

Union Village Bridge -Thetford, VT
Crossing the Ompompanoosuc River this 111 ft bridge, built in 1867,  combines different arches and massive timbers.  On Academy Road

Center Bridge -Thetford, VT
Crossing the East Ompompanoosuc River this 127 ft bridge is similar to the Union Village Bridge.  On Tucker Road.

Moxley Bridge -Chelsea, VT
Built in 1883, this 56 ft queenpost bridge crosses the first branch of the White River. On Route 110.

Flint Bridge -Tunbridge, VT
Built in 1845, this bridge has wonderful patterns of shadow and light inside it.  Off Route 110.

Larkin Bridge -Tunbridge, VT
Built in 1902 by Arthur C. Adams. Off Route 110.

Mill Bridge -Tunbridge, VT
Near a historic mill district this bridge also has a great swimming hole.  Off Route 110.

Cilley Bridge -Tunbridge, VT
A beautiful bridge in a classic rural setting off route 110.

Howe Bridge -Tunbridge, VT
This bridge leads to the Howe farm, a well preserved group of farm buildings. Off Route 110.

Red Bridge -Morristown, VT
Built in 1896 in Sterling, VT, a town that was abandoned for lack of settlers, this bridge uses both King and Queen post in its design.  Located on Sterling Valley Road.

Gates Farm Bridge -Cambridge, VT
Built in 1887, this restored bridge sits in a cornfield on the Gates Farm off Route 15.

Poland Farm Bridge -Cambridge, VT
This 153' multiple kingpost and burr arch bridge is now closed to traffic. Near Route 109 off Route 108.

Scott Bridge -Cambridge, VT
Similar to the Poland Farm Bridge, although still in use to date.  On Canyon Road off Route 108.

Church Street Bridge -Waterville, VT
Built between 1877-1895 this queenpost bridge spans the north branch of the Lamoille river. Off Route 109.

Montgomery Bridge -Waterville, VT
Built between 1877-1895 this queenpost bridge spans the north branch of the Lamoille river. Off Route 109.

Codding (or Kissin') Bridge -Waterville, VT
Built between 1877-1895 this queenpost bridge spans the north branch of the Lamoille river. Off Route 109.

Mill Bridge -Waterville, VT

Shelburne Museum Bridge -Shelburne, VT
This 168' burr arch  design covered bridge was built in 1845 in Waterville, VT  and relocated to Shelburne in 1950-51.  A great example of a two lane covered bridge.

Quinlan Bridge -Charlotte, VT
Built in 1849-50, this bridge uses multiple kingposts with burr arches in its construction. 

Sequin Bridge - Charlotte, VT
Similar to the Quinlan bridge and possibly built around the same time.  On Lewis Creek Road.

Holmes Creek Bridge - Charlotte, VT
Built in 1840, this kingpost constructed bridge is 40' long and spans Holmes Creek.  On Lake Road.

Brown's River Bridge - Westford, VT
Built in 1837-38, this 97' burr arch bridge is located off Route 128 on Cambridge Road.

East Fairfield Bridge - Fairfield, VT
Built in 1965, this 67' long queenpost is only 1/10th of a mile off Route 36.

Maple Street Bridge - Fairfax, VT
Built in 1865, this town lattice designed bridge is unusually wide.  Off Route 104.

Spade Farm Bridge - Ferrisburgh, VT
A mid-18th century town lattice design that is now part of a collection of historic structures.  Off Route 7.

Pulp Mill Bridge - Middlebury, VT
Vermont's oldest bridge.  Built between 1808-1820, this 199' triple-span two-lane bridge was saved from collapse in 1860 by the addition of arches.  Off Elm Street.

Halpin Bridge - Middlebury, VT
Built in 1924, this town lattice designed bridge was completely overhauled in 1994.  On Halpin Bridge Road.

Hopkins Bridge - Enosburg, VT
Built between 1863 -1890, this town lattice designed bridge is part of a collection of 6 bridges in the area.  On Route 118.

Gibou Road Bridge - Montgomery, VT
Built between 1863 -1890, this town lattice designed bridge is part of a collection of 6 bridges in the area.  On Gibou Road off Route 118.

Hutchins Bridge - Montgomery, VT
Built between 1863 -1890, this town lattice designed bridge is part of a collection of 6 bridges in the area.  On Hutchins Bridge Road.

Fuller Bridge - Montgomery, VT
Built between 1863 -1890, this town lattice designed bridge is part of a collection of 6 bridges in the area. In the village on South Richford Road.

Comstock Bridge - Montgomery, VT
Built between 1863 -1890, this town lattice designed bridge is part of a collection of 6 bridges in the area.  On Comstock Road, near the Town Green.

Longley Bridge - Montgomery, VT
Built between 1863 -1890, this town lattice designed bridge is part of a collection of 6 bridges in the area.  Near the green and Route 118.

Kingsley Bridge - Clarendon, VT
Built in 1970 by Timothy Horton, this 120 ft Town Lattice design sits next to a restored  mill .  Off rte 103.

Brown Bridge - Shrewsbury, VT
Built in 1880 by Nicholas Powers, this Town Lattice design crosses the Cold River.

Twin Bridge - Rutland, VT
Built in 1850, this is not a functioning bridge anymore, located off rte 7.

The Sanderson Bridge - Brandon, VT
An 1840's Town Lattice bridge spans 182 ft over Otter Creek.

Gorham Bridge - Pittsford, VT
Built in the 1840's this town lattice spans Otter Creek. Off rte 3.

Cooley Bridge - Pittsford, VT
Similar to Gorham Bridge this bridge spans Furnace Brook.  On Elm St.

Depot Bridge - Pittsford, VT
Located Near and similar too the Gorham Bridge.

Hammond Bridge - Pittsford, VT
Also built in the 1840's, this bridge is located on off Kendall Hill Road.

The Cornwall-Salisbury Bridge - Cornwall-Salisbury, VT
A single span Town Lattice design built in 1865.  On the swamp road off rte 30.

Best Bridge - West Windsor, VT
Built in 1869 this tied arch bridges builder is unknown.  On Rte 44.

Bowers Bridge - West Windsor, VT
Built in 1909 this tied arch bridge is located on Rte 44.

Cornish-Windsor Bridge - Windsor, VT
Mostly in N. H., this 460 ft Lattice Design was completely rebuilt during a 4.65 million dollar restoration project in 1989.

Martinsville Bridge - Hartland, VT
Built in 1881, this 135 ft Town Lattice crosses the Connecticut River on Rte 5.

Willard Bridge - Hartland, VT
Built in 1870 this 128 ft Town Lattice bridge is also located on Rte 5.

Taftsville Bridge - Woodstock, VT
Built in 1836 with a combination of kingpost, queenpost and arch designs, this 189 ft two span structure  is located on Rte 4 and is the states third oldest bridge.

Middle Bridge - Woodstock, VT
Built in 1969 as a reproduction, this bridge uses town lattice design in its 139 ft span.  Located in the middle of Woodstock.

Built in 1877, this 137 ft Tied arch design was completely restored in 1988.  On Rte 4.

Silk Bridge - Bennington, VT
Built in the 1840's using town lattice style trusses the Silk bridge crosses the Walloomasac river on Rte 7A.

Paper Mill Village Bridge - Bennington, VT
Built in 1889 by Charles F. Sears, this bridge was constructed using the Town Lattice style trusses and in easily visible from rte 7A.

Henry Bridge - Bennington, VT
Completely rebuilt in 1989, this bridge was the location where Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys confronted and sent home a NY sheriff who had come to remove the existing landowners.  This was one of Vermont's moments of independence.

Chiselville Bridge - Arlington, VT
Built in 1870 to span the Roaring Branch, this Town Lattice truss bridge was built by Daniel Oatman.

West Arlington Bridge - Arlington, VT
Built in 1852 by an unknown builder this bridge uses the Town Lattice truss design.

Shoreham Covered Railroad Bridge - Shoreham, VT
Built in 1897, this Howe Truss Bridge is one of the few surviving railroad bridges in the state.  On East Shoreham Road. 

Green River Bridge - Guilford, VT
Built in 1870 Town Lattice is unique in that local residents keep their mailboxes in side it. On the Jacksonville Stage Road. 

Creamery Bridge - Brattleboro, VT
Built in 1879 this 80 ft Town Lattice design spans Whetstone Brook, close to Rte 9.

West Dummerston Bridge - Dummerston, VT
Built in 1872 this two span 280 ft Town Lattice was completely repaired in 1993. Off Rte 30.
